The News of my husband’s helicopter crash rattled me, says Osinbajo’s wife

Wife of the Vice-President, Dolapo Osinbajo, on Sunday, shared her experience when she received the news of her husband’s helicopter crash in February.

She recalled that on the day the incident happened she was in Ikenne, Ogun State, for a programme.

The VP’s wife stated this on Sunday in her remarks during an interdenominational service of praise and thanksgiving to appreciate God for sparing Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo’s life in the helicopter crash that happened on February 2 in Kabba, Kogi State.

The thanksgiving service, which held at the Obafemi Awolowo Square, Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State, was attended by Governors of Lagos and Oyo states, Akinwunmi Ambode and Abiola Ajimobi, respectively.

Also in attendance were the immediate past governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, Ogun State  governor-elect, Dapo Abiodun, Senator Godswill Akpabio and some traditional rulers, among other dignitaries.

Speaking on the helicopter crash, Mrs Osinbajo said she was on her way to Lagos from Ogun State when she received a call on the incident, adding that she was shocked by the news.

She said, “I am thankful to God for saving the life of my husband and those of his co-passengers.”

Mrs Osinbajo told the congregation that the mercy of God had been  the pillar of her family.

In his remarks, the Vice-President described himself as a product of God’s special mercy.

The VP explained that the thanksgiving in his home town, Ikenne, became imperative to thank God for sparing his life in the  helicopter crash.

He ascribed his survival in the crash to the special mercy of God, who, according to him, has been seeing him through the ups and downs of life.

He prayed for peace, progress and stability in the country.

Also speaking, the Ogun State governor-elect, Dapo Abiodun, described Osinbajo as an embodiment of diligence and sincerity.

He said Osinbajo had some attributes worthy of emulation.

In his sermon,  the Archbishop of Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos, the Most Reverend Olusina Fape, said the victory of the All Progressives Congress in this year’s presidential election was because of God’s mercy.

Fape, who added that it was God’s mercy that averted the untimely death from the VP, prayed  that God would see the country to the next level of greatness,

The cleric urged Osinbajo to continue to serve God.

“The election has come and gone. But it was won through the mercy of God. It is mercy that makes the difference in the lives of individuals.

“Election is not according to your power, your ability and your wisdom; election is a matter of mercy.

“Mercy does five things, it brings victory, it brings exaltation, it brings wisdom, it brings deliverance and success. Your Excellency, whatever you might have achieved is not by your power or wisdom, but by the sheer mercy of God.

“As you celebrate today, God’s mercy will catapult you to the next level according to the slogan of your party,” Fape stated.

Patience Ozokwor stated in her interview the she wasn't allowed to marry the man of her choice

'The only regret I have in life is that I wasn’t allowed to marry the man of my choice' –

Veteran Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwor in a new interview has opened up on the only regret she has in life, how her kids prevented her from getting married again and the role her mum played in her first marriage.

See excerpts from her interview with Punch-ng below...

Since the death of your husband, have you ever considered remarrying?

Yes. There was a time I wanted to remarry but my children said no.

They are all grown now. They said if they were young, they wouldn’t have objected. Now that they are grown, they say they will be my husband and they have been trying. The only thing they don’t do is go to bed with me (laughs).

They said that their friends would laugh at them that their mother abandoned them, but I didn’t see it that way.

It really brought problems. I wanted to remarry but my sister and other relations came and said that I should concede to them and I accepted but with the condition that they would also listen to me anytime I tell them to stop being friends with any of their friends that I don’t like and they agreed. So we have been managing one another.

Wicked! Mother burns child with hot iron

Hot iron

A 12-year old juvenile is struggling to sit and sleep after her mother and sister allegedly ganged up and took turns to burn her all over the body with a hot iron for coming home late.

The girl (name withheld) who is doing Grade seven at Nyamauru Primary School, Dangamvura, Zimbabwe, sustained serious burns on her privates, back side, hands, thigh and cheeks.

Police have since arrested the girl’s mother and sister (names withheld), aged 50 and 21 years respectively.

The girl, according to neighbors and witnesses, was ‘punished’ for allegedly being a problem child.

The Manica Post reports that during a visit to the Dangamvura Police Station on Tuesday morning the mother and relatives had been summoned for questioning, while the girl was also present but could hardly sit, as she was kneeling down whilst her hands were on the bench. She was in pain.

The Manica Post was barred from talking to the girl and family members. Officer-in-charge at Dangamvura police station, Chief Inspector Sakurungo referred reporters to Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa.

When reached for comment, Inspector Kakohwa said: “We have arrested two women who are facing charges of physical abuse (domestic violence) and they are assisting the police with investigations. On March 2, at around 4:00 pm, the juvenile lied to her parents that she was going for some extra lessons.

“She came back around 8:00 pm and locked herself in her room. The two accused called her but she refused to come out. She went out again the following day and came back in the evening. This angered her mother who realized that she was not fully dressed. They then burnt her several times with a hot iron on her buttocks, thigh, hands and cheeks. They locked her in the house and did not take her to the hospital. We received a tip-off which subsequently led to the arrest of the two.”

Neighbors interviewed said they heard the girl crying for help on Sunday evening.

“She was screaming and we heard some voices of women saying switch on the iron, she must learn a lesson. She tried to escape but failed. We were worried but there was nothing we could do. The girl’s mother is not that sociable so we did not bother to go and check on what was happening,’’ said one neighbor who declined to be named.

Before the incident, the girl had sought refuge at her mother’s friend’s house, known as Mai Mzemba after she had come home late and sensed danger.

Mai Mzemba, who witnessed part of the incident said: “This girl came to my house around 7pm on Sunday saying she had been chased away from home. So I told her that I wanted to see her mother and inquire why. After all, we knew she was lying. I refused that she would sleep at my house without her mother’s knowledge. She did not want to go home. I went to see her mother (who is not feeling well) and we learnt that she was a troublesome girl. Her mother was really infuriated, mainly because she was not dressed completely. Like any other parent she might have concluded that she was sexually active.”
