Count me out, I won't be part of Social media Proposed Clampdown -Gov Seyi Makinde

Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde has distanced himself from the proposed clampdown on social media through regulation.

He also denied media reports Southwest Governors voted in favour of social media regulation bill.

Rather, he said the Governors only resolved the existing Cybercrime Act (Cybercrime Prohibition Prevention Act, 2015) should be allowed to take its course instead of duplicating an existing law in the name of social media bill.

He spoke on Tuesday while inaugurating an 11-man judicial panel at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s office, Agodi, Secretariat, Ibadan.

The panel is chaired by a retired Chief Judge, Justice Badejoko Adeniji while Mrs. Oluwafolake Ogundele, an Assistant Director, Department of Public Prosecution, Ministry of Justice is to serve as Secretary.

Other members of the panel include: Prof. Odutayo Akintayo, Dr Oluwole Akintayo, Mrs. Wumi Odutayo, Mr Nasir Sulaimon, Ms Mary Kolawole, Mr Babatunde Oduyoye, Mrs Maryan Badmus, Mr Falowo Saheed and Mr Agbeja Adebola.

Makinde said about 50 petitions have been received through the official portal created for members of the public to register their complaints.

On the social media regulation, he said: “Let me categorically state that as far as I know, there was no such communiqué from the Southwest Governors that I am part of.

“Yes, I was in Lagos on Sunday, we did hold a meeting but our agreement at the meeting was that we already have an existing Cybercrime Act (Cybercrime Prohibition Prevention Act, 2015), so there was no need for any further duplicity in terms of a specific social media bill.

“So, should anyone choose to sponsor such, I should be categorically be counted out. Because the Cybercrime Act is extensive enough and covers any issues that any so-called Social media Bill may seek to address.”

He added: “And as I have said in various fora, we are fully aware of the trust deficit in the system right now, the trust deficit between the government, the leaders and the ordinary citizens. People are angry, there is a lot of anger in the land. There is a lot of hunger as well.”

He urged members of the public with legitimate case of human right violations to bring same forward to the panel with evidence, nothing that such is the only way the job of the panel could be easily done.

“Some people have said it will not yield any result. Well, the only way it can produce a result is if people present their cases and bring evidences to support them, so that the panel can make their recommendations which will then be adopted and implemented.

“So, something would happen if people are able to come forward and present their cases before the panel.

“When it comes to judicial matters, it is a matter of evidence. Even if your brother is the judge, if you don’t have any evidence, nothing is going to happen.

Popular Nigerian singer, Wizkid, has responded to a statement by the Special Assistant to President Muhammdu Buhari on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, where she described him as a ‘dumb kid’.

Breaking News: Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari plan to overhaul the nation’s security architecture- Babagana Monguno

Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari is planning to overhaul the nation’s security architecture, National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (Rtd.) disclosed this on Tuesday.

Monguno, who spoke with newsmen after the security council meeting presided over by Buhari in Abuja, said the president had ordered an overhaul of operational strategies of the nation’s security network to effectively counter the security situation across the country.

The NSA stated that the government was working on a solution to the security crisis in some parts of the country, saying that the Minister of Defense, Major General Bashir Salihi Magashi (Rtd), was “working on something” to give effect to President Buhari’s earlier marching orders to service chiefs.

According to him, the council decried proliferation of drugs, which it said was driving insecurity in the country.

Monguno said the manner of killings of their victims could only mean one thing and that is, the bandits, kidnappers and terrorists were out of their minds.

He said Buhari reaffirmed his last marching orders to the nation’s security chiefs that their best effort was not good enough.

Monguno said the president told the security chiefs that Nigerians had lost confidence in the security sector and that he was determined to restore that confidence.

Can you believe Late Ajimobi was Defrauded of 50M before his death? Read How..

How Late Ajimobi Was Defrauded Of N50m On Fake Drugs From Bangladesh before his death.

The last days of former Oyo State governor, Abiola Ajimobi, who died on Thursday at First Cardiology Hospital in Lagos following Coronavirus complications, were devoid of peace as he was defrauded of N50m right on his sickbed.

Ajimobi was rushed to the hospital weeks ago after his health deteriorated significantly and soon slipped into a deep coma he never recovered from until he passed away on Thursday.

In the period doctors were battling to save his life at the Lagos hospital, family members desperate to keep him alive reached out to a handful of Nigerians they knew abroad to help get a sizeable quantity of Remivir to be administered on him.

Manufactured in Bangladesh, the antiviral drug was previously tested in humans with Ebola virus disease and has shown promise in treating severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) caused by Coronavirus, according to United States National Institutes of Health.

First, the assignment for the search for the drug was given to a Nigerian in Texas, United States, to see if he could help get it.

After days of contacting several trusted persons for the 'project', he gave up the search as the tight monitoring of the drug by the US government made it almost impossible for it to be moved out of hospitals.

The $50,000 paid was returned after another search for the drug in a hospital in Los Angeles, California, did not also materialise.

The hospitals contacted had only limited dose of the drugs, which is closely monitored by the US authorities desperate to stop the rising number of deaths related to Coronavirus.

After failing to get the drug in the US, members of Ajimobi circle turned attention to Bangladesh were it is being produced.

A Nigerian assured them of getting the needed quantity of Remivir to administer on the ex-Oyo governor and help save his life.

Subsequently, a jet and N50m was dispatched to the Asian country for the purchase and delivery but sadly the drugs procured by the Nigerian man was all fake.

He pocketed large chunk of the money and left the former governor to battle for his life at the Lagos hospital where for at least one week he was on a life support machine before he eventually died.

"All our guys here in the United States couldn't risk it because of the war act invoked by President Donald Trump that the drug should not get out of America.

"It is something I was involved in from the beginning. In fact, we gave $50,000 to one of our Nigerian guy who is a doctor in Los Angeles but he returned the money. He said the hospital had only 100 dose and everything was monitored on how it is used.

"But one Nigerian guy defrauded them after claiming he could get it in Bangladesh.

"They sent a flight and paid about N50m but the drug they got from him was fake," one of those privy to the search for the drugs told SaharaReporters.

It was gathered that the disappointment from that development further added to the pain of those close to the former governor, who passed away at the age of 70 on Thursday.

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the statement dismissed the rumored presidential ambition in 2023

Ahmed Tinubu says he has not decided on 2023 presidential race. (Punch)

Tinubu says he’s currently more worried about the spread of corona-virus in Nigeria and its economic fallout.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) says he has not made any decision to run for president in the 2023 presidential election.

Tinubu disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, June 27, 2020, two days after his party’s National Executive Committee dissolved Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee (NWC).

In the opinions of many Nigerians, the dissolution of the party’s NWC dealt a blow to the perceived presidential ambition of the party leader because of his closeness to Oshiomhole, the former chairman of the party.

But the former Governor of Lagos State in the statement dismissed the rumored presidential ambition, saying at this moment, he’s more worried for Nigeria about the spread of corona-virus and its economic fallout. Below is Tinubu’s full statement.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu (@AsiwajuTinubu) | Twitter
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC National Leader, (TheNation)

BECOMING THE PARTY WE WERE INTENDED TO BE

I wish to begin my remarks by commending members of the National Working Committee. Under their collective stewardship, the party earned great and important victories, not least the vital second mandate handed to President Buhari. President Buhari’s victory, and the overall electoral success of APC speak highly of them.

Our task as a party is to build upon the progress thus made so that both nation and party may advance to their better future.

Yet, we must acknowledge that something important has gone off track. For some months we have experienced growing disagreement within the leadership of the party. This unfortunate competition had grown so intense as to impair the performance of the NWC, thus undermining the internal cohesion and discipline vital to success.

Some people have gone so far as to predict the total disintegration of our party. Most such dire predictions were from critics whose forecasts said more about their ill will than they revealed about our party’s objective condition. Predictions of the APC’s imminent demise are premature and mostly mean-spirited. However, an honest person must admit the party had entered a space where it had no good reason to be.

The trouble is not that we would forfeit our collective existence but whether we were in danger of losing our collective purpose. In some ways, this possibility is of greater concern. A political party that has lost sight of the reason for its existence becomes but the vehicle of blind and clashing ambitions. This is not what drove the APC’s creation.

Those who believe Nigeria can be forged into a better nation and deserves good governance must harken back to the establishment of our party. Those who were there and contributed the most to the party’s genesis embraced a common vision. Not only did we believe the venal, purblind PDP was leading the nation into a pit, we sincerely held a common vision of progressive good governance. This was the overriding reason for the APC.

ADVERTISING

Those most intimately involved in founding the party remain faithful to this benign, timely assignment. Sadly, many members have lost their balance. Their personal ambition apparently came to greatly outweigh the obvious national imperatives.

Even in the best of times, Nigeria is beset by myriad challenges. Poverty and economic inequality, insecurity, lack of infrastructure are longstanding obstacles that have blocked our access to national greatness for too long.

Through no fault of our own, we now live in a moment of heightened difficulty. We did not ask for COVID-19 but it has found us. We must deal with it and navigate its rude economic consequences. At the same time we must grapple with the violent insecurity caused by increasingly desperate terrorists and criminals. People need concrete help from us. We must focus on building roads and creating jobs. For the average man, watching politicians wrestle for position is a poor substitute to seeing politicians working for the benefit of all.

Yet, such intramural fighting has come to occupy the attention of many high ranking party officials and members.

The National Working Committee, itself, became riven by unnecessary conflict. Those who disagreed with one another stopped trying to find common ground. Attempts were made to use the power of executive authority to bury each other. I must be blunt here. This is the behaviour of a fight club not the culture of a progressive political party.

Some members went against their chairman in a bid to forcefully oust him. In hindsight, his fence-mending attempts were perhaps too little too late. I believed and continue to believe that Comrade Oshiomhole tried his best. Mistakes were made and he must own them. Yet, we must remember also that he was an able and enthusiastic campaigner during the 2019 election. He is a man of considerable ability as are the rest of you who constituted the NWC.

Interview : Apostle Jeremiah Adeyeye Revelation about Obasanjo , Tinubu others ..Read what he says

What God told me about Obasanjo, Tinubu, others

In the interview
Oluseye Ojo, Ibadan
Apostle Jeremiah Adeyeye, is general overseer, Clear Revelation Ministry (CRM), Ibadan, Oyo State.

He revealed what God Speaks to him concerning the role of former President Olusegun Obasanjo for Nigeria to maintain its corporate existence, otherwise the country would break into three smaller nations.

Read below the interview with the prophet via Sunnews online ..

How would you assess the situation in Nigeria; has God shown you anything concerning the country?

For a long time, I have stopped talking about this nation. What I do now is to earnestly pray for the country. Many things have gone wrong.

During former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure, I wrote many letters to him and I did many advertorials and many press conferences.

I told him in 2007 through an open letter that the elections should not be held. I said if the elections should hold Nigeria, would witness bitterness. But many thought I was being sponsored.

What really nailed him was the third term agenda. What Obasanjo needed then was tenure elongation. If he had hearkened to what I told him, Nigeria would have been better for it.

I told him that war would emerge within Nigeria and that it would not be from outside the country.

The media houses that carried the story are still in existence. In 2011, I went to Lagos to address a press conference on Obasanjo.

Two years later, I addressed another press conference in Ibadan, Oyo State. Before then, in 2007, I had addressed the press at the Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan, on the same Obasanjo.

Obasanjo should have been the best President so far, if he had listened to me not to conduct the election that brought in the late Alhaji Umar Musa Yar’Adua.

After that election, God spoke to me that Yar’Adua would not finish his tenure.

It was published in a newspaper on March 4, 2009. Obasanjo is still alive today, he can remember or may pretend not to remember. But some people who were in his government would bear me witness.

The emergence of Yar’Adua as President of Nigeria was associated with the problem that is facing Nigeria at this moment.

I warned former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, not to contest election in 2007 and he obeyed.

Babangida is still alive today. I did not go to Minna to see him.

I wrote an open letter to Obasanjo in 2015 when he was backing President Muhammadu Buhari. I warned him about the outcome. What is happening today? Is all well with Nigeria? Obasanjo needs to go and do extra job to save Nigeria at this time.

It is God that is sending me to Obasanjo. It is the same God that has been keeping him.

Obasanjo has the capability, if he wants to do it. He is one of the powers that be in Nigeria.

If not because of Obasanjo, Buhari would not have come on board. He knew how he went outside the country to curry favour of the international community for him. But, the emergence of Buhari in 2015 as President was not the handiwork of Obasanjo alone.

I will tell you two things, which I have been saying since 2006. Many things will happen before 2023. Nigeria will witness many things.

There are many secrets being covered by our leaders. All of them will come into the open, as the Bible says, whatever you do under the roof will come out on top of the roof. So, they should go back and put heads together and reshape what they have made to become dilapidated.

According to Isaiah 45:9, what is happening in Nigeria is like somebody waking up to fight his Creator. How can the person prosper? It will be a journey of no return. Every secret that is going on in Nigeria and in Africa is known to Obasanjo. He cannot deny it.

Obasanjo knows every corner of this country. I know what I am talking about. He should make the move. Obasanjo is a great man, forget about criticisms against him. When it comes to government, you cannot argue with him.

Tinubu has forgotten history of this country. They used Chief Obafemi Awolowo and dumped him. They used Bashorun M.K.O. Abiola and dumped him. He should be careful so that his case too will not be like the case of ‘use and dump.’ I am not praying for his downfall. Something will happen before 2023 that will shake Africa. Tinubu should pray to God to have time to enjoy what he has. The northerners are deceiving him, and maybe he does not know it.

Concerning Nigeria’s existence, what is God speaking to you in this direction?

Nigeria will soon break into three parts. But I am not saying it will break up in 2023.

I have been begging God since I saw the vision in 2010. But the killings here and here by Boko Haram insurgents, herdsmen and others that are connected with politics will break the country.

Government belongs to God. But some people believe that government belongs to them. If they fail to repent, they will see hell very soon.

What is your position on the political developments in your home state, Ekiti?

When Ayodele Fayose was in office for the first time, before his impeachment, I warned him through a newspaper publication that he would be impeached and that Rashidi Ladoja in Oyo State would also be impeached.

I went to Ekiti to see him, they just wasted my time. I left Ekiti without meeting him.

When the impeachment came, Ladoja called me, and I told him the frank truth that it was too late for him not to be impeached at the time he called.

But the Lord spoke to me that Ladoja would come back.

This was published in many newspapers. Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, former governor of Oyo State, called me a prophet of doom by then, and that they were not afraid of my prophecy.

But Ladoja came back and Fayose did not come back then.

Governor Kayode Fayemi needs serious prayers after leaving office for bad things not to end his life.

In other hands, Fayemi has good mind.

But some people surrounding him are the problem.

FG hails media for COVID-19 fight, seeks more support in the ongoing fight against the corona-virus disease (COVID-19).

Making the call yesterday at a virtual meeting with the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria (NPAN), the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, appealed for more media support for the Federal Government’s efforts to tackle the pandemic.

“The government is very grateful to the media. You have done a lot to bring our message (on the pandemic) to Nigerians,” he said, quoting a poll showing that 99 per cent of Nigerians were aware of the pandemic while 95 per cent said they had received information on how to protect themselves.

In the absence of any known drug or vaccine against the virus, the only option is Non-Pharmaceutical Intervention (NPI), which includes social distancing, wearing of face mask, avoiding mass gathering and ensuring personal hygiene, Mohammed noted.

According to him, NPI is hinged on getting the necessary information to members of the public, and this could only be done with the support of the media.

“Yes, we are going to spend more on research and ventilators; but we will spend less money on ventilators and isolation centres if we invest just a fraction of what we are spending on ventilators in the media,” the minister said.Chairman of NPAN, Chief Nduka Obaigbena, said the media had continued to sensitise Nigerians on COVID-19 on all platforms, even in the face of a drastic reduction in revenue.

He called on the minister to enact a policy that would ensure that some online platforms pay for the original content they generate from the various media outlets in Nigeria.

“In Australia, the government has intervened in ensuring that Facebook, Google and Twitter pay for original content by journalists and media practitioners as a matter of policy,” he said, urging the minister to do the same for the Nigerian media.

NPAN’s request for mitigating the effect of the pandemic on the media include soft loan, tax relief and other fiscal incentives as well as increased patronage by the government.

New electricity tariffs to take effect in July- Minister of Power, Sale Mamma

New electricity tariffs to take effect in July- Minister of Power, Sale Mamman

The Minister of Power, Sale Mamma, has said that the proposed electricity tariff increase by the Federal government will kick off in July.

In January, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) had announced an upward review of electricity tariff across the country from April 1. It later suspended the proposed tariff increase in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, while speaking at the investigative public hearing on the power sector recovery plan and the impact on COVID-19 pandemic at the Senate on Tuesday, June 16, the Minister said the subsidy incurred in order to maintain the current tariff level is unsustainable.

“The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has also affected our laid-out plan for the repositioning of the electricity market towards financial sustainability under the power sector recovery programme (PSRP).

Initially, the regulator, following the completion of public consultation on tariff review, planned on conducting a tariff review in April 2020. However, due to COVID-19 and customer apathy, the proposed tariff review was delayed by three months.

The impact of this means the subsidy being incurred in maintaining the current tariff level had to be maintained until July 2020 when the proposed tariff review will be implemented. The current situation in the Nigerian power sector is that a lot of capital investment is being made, most of which is dependent on donor funding, loans and budgetary allocation.

For projects that we have already secured their funding, we do not expect any adverse effect.” Sale said

Covid 19: FG suspends aviation company Naira Marley flew to Abuja for his drive-in concert (video)

FG suspends aviation company that flew Naira Marley to Abuja for his drive-in concert (video)Naira Marley under attack for performing despite COVID-19 restrictions

The Federal Government has suspended Executive Jet services, the aviation company that owns the private jet used to fly Naira Marley from Lagos to Abuja for his drive-in concert on Saturday, June 13.

The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, who announced this at the daily briefing of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 today June 15, said the aviation company violated the Federal government's approval.

According to him, an approval was given to the company to fly Justice Adefope Okoji from Lagos to Abuja and back to Lagos on an official assignment. However, they used the approval to fly in NairaMarley.

Well, we approved a flight but certainly not for any musician. The flight, from the application, was to convey Honorable Justice Adefope Okojie from Lagos to Abuja and back to Lagos for an official assignment.
“In this challenging time, in our wisdom, we considered the judiciary to be part of the essential service to be delivered. Having to move the Hon. Justice from Lagos to Abuja was in order. The approval was given for the 14th of June, 2020, however, we do give them a leeway of 24 hours sometimes due to operational reasons.

They can operate the flight slightly earlier or slightly forward within 24 hours. In this case, the operator choose to fly on the 13th at about 6:00 pm. So, that itself is not a violation to operate earlier because we gave him the leeway.

The operator is Executive Jets Services and the approval was very clear and I will read part of it. This is the letter from the ministry of Aviation to the Chairman of the Executive Jets Services and it was signed by the Director of Air Transport Management on my behalf.”

Announcing the sanctions on the company, Sirika said

“The operation is a clear violation of our approvals which we take seriously, it seems this is becoming a norm, it’s the second time.

Obstacle mount for Obaseki in PDP

Edo 2020: Obaseki speaks on disqualification from APC Primary
Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki

The Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo, Mr Tony Aziegbemi, has vowed not to grant Gov. Godwin Obaseki an automatic ticket of the party to contest for re-election.

Since Obaseki was disqualified by the All Progressives Congress screening committee, he has reportedly been making moves to join the PDP.

He has visited two governors in the South South, Nyesom Wike in Rivers and Emmanuel Udom in Akwa Ibom.

Aziegbemi told NAN: “I can confirm to you that the governor, his deputy and the entire APC structure in the state will be joining PDP soon.

“We have been in touch in the last few days; by tomorrow, I will be able to confirm the exact date he will be joining, along with his team.

“However, I am not yet aware that the governor has obtained our party’s membership card. I can also say that there is no automatic ticket in the offing for him at all,” he said.

Similarly, a governorship aspirant of the PDP, Mr Ken Imasuagbon, has said he is prepared for open contest, provided his opponents will be ready to subject themselves to the party’s rules and regulations.

Imasuagbon said he was not averse to Obaseki’s planned move to join the party, but added that he would resist any attempt to hand over the party’s ticket to him, preparatory to the governorship election slated for Sept. 19.

According to him, Obaseki will have to join the queue, just like other aspirants, and go through the party’s primaries, billed for June 19 and June 20.

“Any attempt to hand the party’s ticket to him will be met with serious resistance. In fact, there will be no PDP primaries or whatever if the party’s leadership tries it.

“This is neither a military coup nor military rule; the governor must subject himself to the party’s primaries.

“He will need to queue with the other aspirants, if he wishes to join the race. But we will certainly resist handing him over the ticket automatically.

“Have you heard before that somebody will join a party and within three days, he will be given the ticket? Did he buy the party’s nomination form? Was he screened?” he queried.

“The passing of Senator Bayo Osinowo has deeply hurt me-Asiwaju Bola Tinubu

I'm deeply hurt' - Tinubu mourns Osinowo - P.M. News
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu

The National leader of All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has reacted to the death of Senator Bayo Osinowo representing Lagos East at the 9th Nigerian National Assembly, who died on Monday.

According to the former governor of Lagos State in his condolence message, Tinubu, who described the death as sudden and unexpected, which deeply hurts.

He said, “The passing of Senator Bayo Osinowo has deeply hurt me and Lagosians. He was more than a close friend and political associate.

“Over the years he became like a family member and brother in so many ways. Bayo and I have come a long way, dating back to our days in the pro-democracy struggles. We both enlisted in the Social Democratic Party where he served so well as the Youth Chairman of that party during the Third Republic and later in the Alliance for Democracy in 1998 after the restoration of democracy.

“Bayo’s contributions to the return of democracy were significant and enduring. As a prominent political figure in Lagos, he served our state with dedication, passion, and concern for the common man.

“In the Lagos State House of Assembly, where he was a four-time member from 2003 to 2019 representing Kosofe Constituency 1, he was more than a member of that House. He provided leadership. He was a stabilizing figure. He worked hard and tirelessly to make Lagos a better place. He cared for all Lagosians.

“His election in 2019 to represent Lagos East in the Senate demonstrated not only his immense political skills but also the affection the people have for him and his popularity. Thus far in the National Assembly, he discharged himself creditably as Chairman Senate Committee on Industries.

“Like the committee he headed, Bayo was extremely industrious. Bayo was not born with riches. He rose from a modest background to the great heights that he attained.

“His death hurt all who know him. Bayo was more than an excellent politician. As great a politician he was, Bayo was an even better person.

“He was a man of a kind heart and ready smile. His loyalty and enthusiasm was legendary, just as his generosity. People loved him. So many tears have been shed. However, we must summon strength to carry on as he would want us to do.

“My thoughts are with his immediate family. May Almighty Allah comfort and give them the solace that only He can provide. May Almighty Allah grant him eternal rest and admit him to Aljanna Firdaus.”
