Persistent Bad breath could lead to gum disease if unchecked – Dentist

Image result for bad breath

A Dentist, Dr. Innocent Osazuwa, on Wednesday, said persistent bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth may be a warning sign of gum disease.

He told NAN: “gum disease is caused by the buildup of plaque on the teeth caused by bacteria.

“Bacteria causes the formation of toxins which irritates the gum and if gum disease continues untreated, it can damage the gum and the jawbone.”

The dentist said that bad breath, also called ‘halitosis’, could be embarrassing and in some cases might even cause anxiety.

He added that “bad breath is often caused by a buildup of bacteria in your mouth that causes inflammation and gives off a noxious odor.

“Cleaning between teeth daily once a day is very important.

“This helps to remove plaque and food particles from between the teeth and under the gum line too.

“Tooth decay-causing bacteria still linger between teeth, where toothbrush bristles cannot reach.”

He explained that brushing the teeth twice a day with a soft-bristle brush and replacing the toothbrush every three or four months would help to eliminate bad breath.

He noted that the symptoms of bad breath vary, depending on the source or the underlying cause.

According to him, some people worry too much about their breath even though they have little or no mouth odor, while others have bad breath and do not know it.

He said the causes of bad breath include food, poor dental hygiene, use of tobacco products, the lack of balanced diet, wrong medications, dry mouth and the lack of drinking water.

He advised anyone with such a problem to see a dentist for treatment.

Reason Why You Should Not Use Towels On Your Hair

Why you should not dry your hair with a towel
You probably don’t know this but drying your hair with a towel is doing your strands more harm than good and we’ll explain why.

We know we’re saying something that no doubt surprises you because you’ve been doing it your whole life.

But the truth is the fibre that regular towels are made from is too coarse for the strands of your hair which are quite delicate. Rubbing towels against your hair will damage your cuticles, make your hair more prone to split ends and cause hair breakage. And that is why you should not use towels on your hair.

So what should you use instead?

Microfiber towels. Microfiber towels are made from very smooth and dense fibres that are very gentle on our hair strands. They are extremely absorbent but the amazing thing about them is that they absorb just the right moisture from your hair. Unlike regular towels which completely strip your hair of moisture and make it frizzy.

You can get microfiber towels here from N1,500.

Know what else you can use that works pretty good? A cotton T-shirt. Yes, that T-shirt you’ve been wearing around town with your favourite jeans will make a lot of difference in the health of your hair over time. This is because T-shirts will adequately absorb the moisture from your hair without roughening up your hair cuticles.

So swap your towels with T-shirts and see how much difference it makes.

So, it seems like towels are pretty much becoming useless nowadays. Before you go, find out why you shouldn’t use them on your face also.

Hair Accessories  Are Making A Comeback This Year specifically fashion and beauty trends, it seems as if the saying "what's old is new again" is always relevant at one point or another. This season, such is the case with hair accessories.

It looks like all of the clips and headbands we all loved from the late '90s and early '00s are resurfacing, but this time, with a slightly cooler, grown-up edge to them. That's right, the winter hair accessory trends spotted on and off the runways this year feature a slew of styles from our youth that have been revived with a touch of glitz and glamour.

From zigzag headbands and scrunchies to jaw clips and bobby pins, I've rounded up the winter hair accessory trends that will have you convinced you should bling out your entire head with the hair accessories from your childhood

The good ol' snap clips that you used to wear in the fourth grade to hold your overgrown bangs back have made a very chic, sparkly comeback and are now available in all sorts of shapes, as seen in AW18 shows like Simone Rocha.

If you want to hop on this trend, like stat, you may wanna cop a hair clip like this Nadine Crystal Hair Clip from Baublebar, embellished with different rhinestones and gems and can be worn to hold back flyaways or added to any up-do as a shiny accent.

Kris Jenner Transform Her Signature Hairstyle To Looks Completely Different

Kris Jenner isn't a regular mom, she's a cool mom. So of course, after her offspring Kylie and Khloe kicked off the new year with fresh new 'dos, the KarJenner matriarch was apparently struck with the "new year, new me" bug as well, and underwent a transformation of her own.

Over the weekend, celebrity (and frequent KarJenner) hairstylist Andrew Fitzsimons posted a selfie of the hair transformation he performed on Kris Jenner: a topknot with messy fringe bangs and soft brown highlights peppered throughout. "Something new 💕 A little 60’s vibe on the beautiful @KrisJenner today," he captioned the photo.

"She wanted to try something new and showed me a few reference photos of a similar style," Fitzsimons told Allure of the transformation. "Her hair is longer now than it has been in a while, so I was able to create this style without a wig. I prepped her hair with a strong-hold mousse, backcombed the hair on top, and formed it into a French twist. I did add just a couple of extensions in the back to give the topknot some additional volume. I secured everything with diamond bobby pins and sprayed all over with a high hold hair spray."

While Kris' new look is a departure from her signature black pixie cut, what really shocked fans was how similar she looked to her daughter, Kim Kardashian. And the dramatic brown smokey eye look, which has become Kim K's go-to, seals the deal. Fans even dug up old pictures of Kim with bangs to make the comparison.

How Often Should You Replace Your Underwear?

As women, we regularly shop for fashion items and cosmetics. We think about buying a beautiful dress almost immediately we see it. And thanks to social media apps like Instagram, these things are always in our faces. So we’re always just a DM away from owning the latest fashion item. But when it comes to underwear, it’s an entirely different situation.
First off, bras and pants aren’t as aggressively advertised as clothes and accessories. Secondly, probably because we’re mostly the only ones who see our underwear, replacing them doesn’t seem so important, unlike our clothes and accessories that other people can see and admire.

But how often should you replace your underwear?
Bras and pants don’t necessarily have a shelf life or expiry date. And while you can wear your bras for as long as you want if there are no physical issues,  it might be better to replace them every six months to get the best out of them in terms of fit and lift.

While with pants, for hygienic reasons it’s safe to replace them every year.

(Photo: tooling-up.blogspot.com)

This is because washing your pants isn’t enough to get rid of all the bacteria on it. There are certain bacteria that can survive being washed. Even if you’re washing with hot water and hanging in the sun to dry. So to reduce the risk of getting infections, you might want to rethink how long you keep them.

How long your pants last will also depend on its fabric and quality. Cotton generally will last longer than lace and other fabrics. For obvious signs that it’s time to replace your underwear, look at the stretch, fit and aesthetic. If it begins to sag, not sit on your waist as well as it used to, or have holes in it, then it’s time to replace it. Also, if you’ll be ashamed to *coughs* let anyone see you naked in it, toss it!

Speaking of bras though, we know they can be uncomfortable sometimes. These tips will help you go braless with no issues.

https://fashionstylesmakeup.blogspot.com/2019/01/did-you-know-baking-soda-shampoo-can.html

This common ingredient can be used for numerous purposes: cleaning, cooking, and so on. Also, baking soda has many therapeutic effects and health benefits.
In fact, it can prevent hair loss and stimulate hair growth. It acts as a natural shampoo since it can clean the hair, and as a conditioner because it makes the hair soft.
Since baking soda has many health benefits for the hair, you should use it as a regular shampoo. Here are reasons why to do that:

1. Improves Hair Growth

Baking soda serves as a natural cleaner of your hair. It makes your hair healthy and soft, and as we already said, it prevents hair loss and promotes hair growth.

2. Enhances Hair Growth

Toxins and chemicals may suppress your hair growth. Anyway, baking soda can be a better cleaner for your hair than any other shampoo. And, it will cleanse the dirt from your hair, so it will grow strong and long.

3. Remove Chlorine

Chlorine can be damaging to your hair and it can even change its color. But, baking soda can remove chlorine from your scalp and hair, and it will prevent the damage.

4. Removes Hair Product Residue

In your hair, there may be leftovers from your usual hair products, but baking soda can remove them. Shampoos, conditioners, and hairsprays can make your hair greasy.
